Poor Performance at Glenrothes

Saturday 04 Oct 08 Blairgowrie senior squad traveled to Glenrothes hoping to secure their first win of the season. With a number of key players unavailable for selection coach Alan Webster had to play a number of players out of their normal positions and include himself in the squad.

Glenrothes opted to kick off and for the first quarter of the game both teams failed to make any impression with Blairgowrie making far too many unforced errors.  Midway through the first it was the home team who got on the scoreboard with a try after Blairgowrie failed to clear the ball from their own try line . With the rain teaming down both teams continued to make mistakes and to add to Blairgowrie’s woes Al Clarke had to leave the field with an injury with coach Alan Webster having to play hooker for the rest of the game. Just before the interval Stephen Souter missed a penalty for Blairgowrie and Glenrothes added a converted try to make the half time score Glenrothes 12 Blairgowrie 0.

From the restart Glenrothes added another converted try quickly followed by a fourth try after Blairgowrie had once again failed to clear a loose ball. Midaway through the second half Blairgowrie at long last raised their game finally managing to string some passes together and after a number of scrums inside the Glenrothes 22 metre area managed to score a try after coach Alan Webster drove over in the corner. With minutes of the game remaining Glenrothes added a fifth try to make the final score Glenrothes 29 Blairgowrie 5.

This is a game that Blairgowrie will want to forget having failed far too often to secure ball at both lineouts and scrums. It is therefore imperative that all players attend training on Tuesday and Thursday as this Saturdays home match against Garioch RFC from Inverurie is a must win game.
