No League Points Against Students

Saturday 14 Mar 09, the Blairgowrie senior squad traveled north for a league fixture against Aberdeen University. In the first half the Blairgowrie forwards dominated scrums and rucks with some good surging runs by the Blairgowrie number 8 Mark Reddin and prop forward Jake Cockburn. Unfortunately Blairgowrie failed to convert pressure into points giving away far too many silly penalties thus allowing the students to capitalise on the Blairgowrie mistakes and scoring two tries in the process. Blairgowrie responded with a penalty kicked by Stephen Souter.
Half time score Aberdeen Uni’ 15 Blairgowrie 3.

The second half developed into a hard physical contest with Blairgowrie finally getting reward for their efforts with a well taken try by player coach Alan Webster after some excellent running by Fraser Bissett, converted by Stephen Souter.  The students quickly responded with two well taken tries but it was Blairgowrie who had the last say with a try by Ali Walker after some good play by the Blairgowrie forwards. Try converted by Stephen Souter.
Final score: Aberdeen University 30 Blairgowrie 17.
