Hearts and Heroes Challenge
On Sat 16 May, 5 members of Blairgowrie RFC, Kev Brown, Mike Todd, Alan Webster, Gavin Wynd and Fraser Bissett, took part in the Hearts and Heroes Challenge.
Teams from the armed services, rugby clubs, corporates and charity supporters descended on the Southern Upland Way to participate in the 29-mile challenge, which began at the southern end of the picturesque St Mary’s Loch, worked its way along the stunning Southern Upland Way, and finished in the beautiful town of Melrose.
The challenge was held in aid of sporting charities, The Sportsman’s Charity and Hearts & Balls, along with veterans’ charity, Poppyscotland. All funds raised will go to help injured sportsmen and women as well as veterans and their dependants living in Scotland.
All members of the Blairgowrie team completed the challenge which was over a very tough route and enjoyed the very well organised event. Participants, support teams and families enjoyed an evening of entertainment at the Greenyards rugby ground. There was a sumptuous three-course feast, followed by a ceilidh, featuring live bands, a busy bar and prizegiving.
The Blairgowrie team have so far raised over £1500 and would like try and raise over £2000. Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/blairgowrie-rfc or down at the Rugby Club. Thanks to everyone who has supported us so far and a big thanks to Mike Black who acted as support driver for the team over the weekend.
