Blair' Settle for Losing Bonus Point
Saturday 18 Sep 10, Blairgowrie travelled East for a league match against Carnoustie RFC who had already won their first three league games of the season and are currently sitting at the top of the league. Blairgowrie got off to the worst possible start losing 4 tries within the first twenty minutes of match largely due to some terrible defending by the Blairgowrie back line. This led to some stern words from Blairgowrie coach Alan Webster with Gavin Wynd responding with a try converted by Stephen Souter who also added two penalties to make the half time score Carnoustie 22 Blairgowrie 13.
Following some more straight talking at the interval Blairgowrie raised their game with Michael Black scoring Blairgowrie’s second try and Stephen Souter adding a further two penalties to put Blairgowrie into a two point lead with less than 10 minutes remaining. Despite this turnaround Blairgowrie failed to close down the game giving away a very soft try towards the end of the game to make the final score Carnoustie 27 Blairgowrie 24.
From all accounts this is a match that the Blairgowrie squad will want to forget and at the risk of repeating what has already been said this season it is imperative that ALL squad players turn out to training on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Man of the match were awarded to Gavin Wynd & Stephen Souter - 1 point each, Kev Brown - 2 points and Ewan Morrison - 3 points and Man of the Match.
This Saturday Blairgowrie play hosts to Crieff & Strathearn RFC at the J J Coupar Park. Kick off 3.00.
