Foiled by Fife Southern
Saturday 23 Oct 10, Blairgowrie played hosts to Fife Southern in a Caledonia Midlands League Division II match at the J J Coupar Park. From the kick off it was Blairgowrie who went on the offensive but despite having long periods of possession they failed to convert pressure into points. Midway through the half the visitors scored a converted try after Michael Black had been robbed of the ball making the half time score Blairgowrie 0 Fife Southern 7. The second half proved to be much of the same with Blairgowrie enjoying plenty possession of the ball but failing to capitalise even after Fife Southern had been reduced to 14 players after one of their players had been sin binned for persistent fouling. Blairgowrie full back Stephen Souter successfully converted two penalties for the home side but Fife Southern finished the game strongly scoring a further 3 tries to make the final score Blairgowrie 6 Fife Southern 25.
Team: James Buchanan, Al Guild, Mike Lee, Al Clarke, Mark Reddin, Russell Edward, Liam McLaren, Alan Webster, John Cockburn, Gavin Wynd, Michael Black, Fraser Bissett (captain), Liam Tweedie, Stevie Stewart, Stephen Souter, Robert Larsen, Rory Philip, Ross Donald.
Unfortunately this was a pretty uninspiring display by Blairgowrie and despite long periods of possession they just did not have the cutting edge to convert possession into points. On the positive side the Blairgowrie forwards played well in spells with some good pick up and drives with the man of the match points being awarded as follows: Michael Black and John Cockburn - 1 point each, Gavin Wynd - 2 points and Mike Lee - 3 points and Man of the Match.
This Saturday (30th) Blairgowrie travel to St Andrews to take on league leaders Madras RFC. There will be bus going to St Andrews with some spaces available for any spectators who wish to travel with the team. Training continues on Tuesdays and Thursday at 7.00 at the J J Coupar Park.
