Students Win at Blairgowrie
Saturday 08 Oct 11, Blairgowrie played hosts to St Andrews University in the RBS Caledonia League Divison II at the J J Coupar Park. With the home pitch in immaculate condition thanks again to John Turpie and Callum Macintosh it was Blairgowrie who applied the early pressure with an excellent break by Fraser Maxwell deep into the students 22 but the students defence stood firm preventing Blairgowrie from scoring an early try. As the game progressed the students came more into the game scoring 3 quick tries to give them a 17 -0 lead at the interval.
The second half was a much closer affair with Blairgowrie playing some good rugby and competing well against a well drilled St Andrews team with the students being pinned back in their own half for long periods of the match. Towards the end of the match Blairgowrie were unlucky not to get on the score sheet after some excellent driving by the Blairgowrie pack but again the students defence held out to make the final score Blairgowrie 0 St Andrews University 21.
Despite not getting any points on the board this was a much improved performance by Blairgowrie in comparison to the previous weekend with both backs and forwards doing well in the set piece and in open play.
