Good workout against Kinross

Saturday 18 Aug 07, Blairgowrie played hosts to Kinross RFC in a friendly match at the J J Coupar Park with the pitch in remarkable condition despite the torrential rain the previous evening.

The earlier part of the game proved to be fairly evenly contested with Blairgowrie leading at the interval 6 - 5 thanks to two well taken penalties from Stephen Souter. Shortly after the restart Blairgowrie increased their lead with a try from Alan Clarke after a good pick up by captain Kev Brown who fed the ball to Tim Watson to allow Alan to score under the posts - converted by Stephen Souter.

From this point on Kinross raised their game putting the home side under long periods of pressure but some excellent defensive play by the Blairgowrie squad prevented the visitors from adding to their earlier try. With Stephen Souter adding a further two penalties the game ended Blairgowrie 19 Kinross 5.

This was a good workout for the Blairgowrie squad with everyone showing good commitment throughout the game with signs that the hard work that has been put into recent training sessions by coaches Ian Robertson and Peter Ireland is coming to fruition.

Following the match thanks were relayed to Kinross for a good hard game with the Man of the Match awards as follows; Alan Clarke - 3 points, Peter Duncan - 2 points and Fraser Bissett - 1 point.
Team: James Buchanan, Alan Guild, Tim Watson, Gordon Black, Alan Clarke, Ewen Morrison, Duncan Campbell, Kev Brown (Capt), Stuart Charnock, Gavin Wynd, Fraser Bissett, Peter Duncan, Michael Black, Ben Wilson, Stephen Souter, James Larsen, Mikey Todd, Jackie Cockburn.
