Last Saturday
Blairgowrie RFC welcomed near neighbours Stobswell RFC from Dundee
to the J J Coupar Park. With Stobswell unlucky to have lost out
the previous week by one point to Strathspey the home side were
well advised by coach Peter Ireland not to treat this game lightly.
From the kick
off it was obvious that the players had taken on board this advice
and effectively killed the game with 4 tries in the first 10 minutes.
A further 10 tries were to follow with the pick of the bunch coming
in the first half after the Blairgowrie forwards had driven the
visiting pack backwards not once but twice to then release the
ball along all the backs for winger Michael Black to come back
in off the wing to take a return pass and score under the posts.
Other try
scorers on the day were captain Kev Brown (2), Gavin Wynd (2)
Euan Ireland (2), Stephen Souter (2), Euan Constable, Peter Duncan,
Fraser Bissett, Duncan Campbell and Timmy Watson with Gordon Black
converting six tries and Stephen Souter converting four tries.
This was a
solid performance by the Blairgowrie squad with 10 players scoring
tries on the day. Man of the Match was awarded to Euan Constable
- 3 points, Euan Ireland - 2 points and Duncan Campbell -1 point.
With 5 games
played this places Blairgowrie at the top of the league with maximum
points.
