Saturday 4th
Aug 07, Blairgowrie hosted their annual 10's tournament at the
J J Coupar Park where teams from Edinburgh, Inverness, Forfar
and Crieff competed for the Algo trophy.
In what could
only be described as perfect playing conditions the on looking
crowd were presented with some excellent rugby throughout the
afternoon with cup holders and favourites Watsonians losing 12-5
to a well organised Strathmore team in the first match of the
afternoon. Blairgowrie's opening encounter was against Highland
RFC and despite losing 19 points to 5 gave a good account of themselves
against the Div 1 team with Euan Constable scoring the home side's
try. During the afternoon further tries came from Stephen Souter
(2), Ross Parsons, Neil MacRae, Kev Brown, Ewan Morrison, Tim
Watson and Fraser Bissett with Neil MacRae being nominated Player
of the Day at the end of the afternoon.
Following
the Group matches the final results were as follows; Cup Final
Strathmore 22 Crieff 0, Plate Final: Highland 24 Watsonians 19,
Bowl Final; Blairgowrie 31 Presidents select 7.
Following the presentation of trophies by Scottish Internationalist
Marcus DiRollo, Duncan MacRae thanked all those who had helped
make the day such a success but in particular Mark Coupar, Alan
Robertson and Peter Ireland for organising the tournament, Jock
Turpie, Bernard Walton and Callum MacIntosh for preparing the
pitches, Sheila MacPherson for carrying out the first aid duties
throughout the afternoon and A Proctor Group for once again sponsoring
the club for the 2007/2008 season.
Thanks were
also relayed to Alan Clarke and Peter Duncan for organising the
fund raising activities in the clubhouse afterwards.
