Saturday 01
Dec, Blairgowrie travelled to Bannockburn with several regular
first team players missing. Blairgowrie kicked off the match and
went into an early lead with a well kicked penalty by full back
Stephen Souter.
Despite the
wet and windy conditions Blairgowrie took the game to the opposition
with the Blairgowrie forwards more than holding their own against
a stuffy Bannockburn pack. Midway through the second half Blairgowrie
scored what turned out to be the only try of the match after Ewen
Morrison playing at number 8 picked up the ball and fed it to
wing forward Timmy Watson who in turn fed the ball to prop forward
Jackie Cockburn who charged over the line for a try converted
by Stephen Souter.
At this point
Blairgowrie seemed to have the edge with the home side conceding
a string of penalties to allow Stephen Souter to covert a further
three penalty kicks to make the half time score Bannockburn 0
Blairgowrie 19.
The weather
continued to deteriorate after the interval and not much could
be said about the second half other than that both teams competed
despite the conditions with the Blairgowrie defence once again
solid throughout. With daylight rapidly failing the referee blew
the final whistle with the full time score Bannockburn 0 Blairgowrie
19.
This was very
much a team effort with the Man of the match and 3 points being
awarded to Gavin Wynd, 2 points - Stephen Souter, and 1
point to Ewen Morrison.
Team; Jackie
Cockburn, Robert Larsen, Ross Parsons, Gordon Black, Alan Clarke,
Ryan Walker, Timmy Watson, Ewen Morrison, Alan Robertson, Gavin
Wynd, Peter Duncan, Fraser Bissett, Michael Black, Andrew Cowan,
Stephen Souter, James Larsen, Alan Guild, Mickey Todd, Ian Rimmer.
This was a
particularly pleasing win for Blairgowrie with a number of first
team regulars missing and credit must go to every single player
in the squad who contributed to this win to ensure that Blairgowrie
remain unbeaten in the Midlands League after 10 games played.
With the next
League match not being until 12 January there will no training
this week. Training recommences at the J J Coupar Park at 7.00
on Tuesday 11th December
