Saturday
12 Apr, the Blairgowrie senior squad brought the season to an
end with a home tie against Montrose RFC. With Montrose only managing
to field 14 players it was always going to be an uphill struggle
for them against the League Champions and so it turned out with
Blairgowrie scoring seven converted tries to a single Montrose
penalty.
Try scoreres
for Blairgowrie were Peter Duncan (2), Michael Black (2) Andrew
Cowan (2) and Stephen Souter who also converted all seven tries.
The pick of
the bunch was Andrew Cowan's second try which started with Ewen
Morrison taking a high ball in his own half of the park and running
at the Montrose forwards. Having been stopped by the Montrose
pack Ewen managed to release the ball to Mickey Todd who in turn
made the ball available to Euan Constable who was stopped by the
Montrose defence but again the Blairgowrie prop forward made the
ball available allowing all the Blairgowrie backs to handle the
ball en route to winger Andrew Cowan to score in the corner.
This was a
pleasing way to end the season after a couple of poor displays
and but every member of the Blairgowrie squad must be congratulated
for a tremendous season and winning the Caledonia National League
Division 2 a month before the end of the end of the season with
a lot of credit going to club coaches Peter Ireland and Ian Robertson
who have worked tirelessly with the squad since last July.
Blairgowrie
Rugby Club are also hugely grateful to Callum, Jock and Bernard
for all their hard work preparing the pitches throughout the season
and particularly to all those business's who have kindly sponsored
the club this season.
With the
league now completed and Blairgowrie crowned champions there will
be a seconds match at Strathmore this coming Saturday (19th).
Further details from coach Peter Ireland or from club captain
Kev Brown.
The following
Saturday Blairgowrie will take part in the annual Crieff 7's tournament
which is always an excellent day so hopefully there will be a
good turnout from the Blairgowrie Club.
