Rams Micros have a good start to Season
Blairgowrie Rams first game of the season was at Montrose on Sunday. Montrose had a festival of rugby aimed at young players Primary 1-3. Nearly 100 players had a great time with good rugby displayed by all teams including Strathmore, Brechin, Carnoustie, Montrose and Blairgowrie.
Rams Junior RFC fielded a young team with only 2 Primary 3’s.
Brechin 1 was the first opposition in this tag rugby game. Steven Fairnington scored the first try of four with some excellent running from Ben Robertson claiming another two and one from Fergus Barron. Score 4-3 to the Rams
Brechin 2 provided the second opponents with a 3-0 victory to Blairgowrie Rams. Fergus Barron scored, with Ben Robertson adding another two. Good tackling by Bruce Campbell, Kyle Mitchell and Blair MacKenzie ensured no tries were conceded.
Strathmore Sharks1 have always been a hard team to beat and today proved the same. The Sharks were well organised with some strong running. However the Rams showed their potential for this season with having a hard fought game being defeated only 3-2. Ben Robertson again showed some strong running leading to two tries.
Strathmore Sharks 2 were the final opponents of the day and here the Rams showed great determination with good tackling and running leading to a win of three tries to two. Bruce Campbell scored the first to get the team going. Montrose had given Rams Junior RFC a substitute who proved a useful addition as Ian scored Rams Junior RFC second try. Fergus Barron completed the tie with a great run leading to a Blairgowrie victory.
This was a very good day for a young Micro team. The tackling was solid by all as well as some exceptional running.
