A Good Day Out For The Rams

Sun 15th Nov 09 saw the Micro’s, P4/5 and P6/7 travelling through to Kinross for a friendly game. After all the rain at the end of the week the Sunday turned out nice but cold and a good day in all respects.

Starting with the Micro’s: Ben Robertson, Steven Fairnington, Archie Thomson, Bruce Campbell, Samuel Michalak and William Learmouth.
An excellent game here with all players passing well to each other and some good fast supportive running. A fast fluid game with touch rules which was the first for Blair Micro`s who are used to tags. Finishing score Blair – 4, Kinross - 3. Scorers Ben Robertson – 3, Bruce Campbell – 1.

P4/5: Fergus Barron, Scott Fairnington, Myles Reid, Rob Alexander, Jack Michalak and Robbie Smith.
Mixed fortunes here yet all players played very well. A good all round performance from the whole team, some fantastic tackling from all and great support play. The first game gave them a 4 all draw with Myles Reid scoring 3 and Rob Smith 1. The second game against Kinross White Team unfortunately saw them beaten 5 – 3 with Kinross getting one or two lucky breaks. The Rams stuck in well. During this game Steven Fairnington, Ben Robertson and Bruce Campbell got on the field for the first time and were not overwhelmed at the whole thing, given that they are only P3.

P6/7: John McLaren, Cameron Freed Smith, Murray Freed Smith, William Campbell, James McCaig, Finlay Robertson, Robert Davie, Callum Blanche and Harry Foggo.
First game against Kinross B saw Blair run out 4 – 1 winners. On a narrow pitch the game was not as fast flowing as Blair is used to and turned more into a physical battle. Tries from Cameron Freed Smith – 2, John McLaren – 2 and Murray Freed Smith – 1.
Second game against Kinross A was a different game altogether with complacency setting in in the first half and they found themselves 2 tries down at half time. After the break Blair came out, back to normal with their fighting spirit and ended up drawing the game 2 – 2. Tries John McLaren and James McCaig.

To finish the day the 6/7`s borrowed 3 players from Kinross and had a 12 a side game which the boys and the parents really enjoyed. On a bigger pitch saw some fluent rugby being played with the Blair backs relishing the open space, unfortunately the Kinross defence was up to it and the game finished 1 – 1. Try: John McLaren.

All games were hard fought with Blair having strong defence and running. They have to work on support/ clearing out opposition and securing the ball whilst it is on the ground if they want to keep up the standard they have set themselves.

Many Thanks to Kinross for their hospitality and the great preparation of pitches.
Training as normal next Sunday 11.00. Anyone interested in trying rugby is more than welcome to come along whether you have played or not before.

Well Done the Ram’s
